Our Malay teachers not only teach language, but also work hand in hand with other departments to inculcate the love to learn and instill moral values in our pupils to develop them into wholesome individuals.

Events in Term 1 - 4

 

  • Heritage Tours ( Integration of MT) for P4-P6

 

P4 – P6 Malay pupils wrote about their visits to Chinatown, Kampong Glam and Little India. Pupils wrote about their reflections / journal writing after their visits. Most pupils gave positive feedback about their outing there. They learnt about the customs and traditions of different races.

 

  • Non Native MTL 

 

All P3 to P5 have the opportunity to learn not one but  two non-native mother tongue languages during their CME lessons. Pupils are taught simple greetings, numbers, names of objects.

  • P4 MTL Camp ( June ) 

 

About 50 P4 Malay pupils took part in the Mother Tongue Camp during June holidays. Pupils were exposed to a variety of activities that encouraged the usage of Malay. Pupils are exposed to the different customs and traditions of the various races.  Programmes on Conversational Malay, Chinese & Tamil were also conducted to provide pupils with the opportunity to learn non-native mother tongue languages.

  • Racial Harmony Day Celebrations

Good compositions written by pupils will be compiled by the end of semester 2. Its aim is to boost the self esteem of pupils to perform better in their writing skills.

 

  • Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebrations

Pupils will be entertained with a variety of concert items to mark the joyous occasion of Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. Pupils of all races understand the customs and practices of the
Malay community. It aims to maintain racial harmony between races and religion.

  • External Malay Language Competitions

To expand pupils’ potential through competitions and activities so as to enhance their language development.

Programmes 2008

 

  • Extensive Reading Programme

All  pupils are involved in the extensive reading programme. Each pupils would be provided with a story book. Pupils would have to complete a book review based on the book that they have read. Various activities such as show and tell, dramatization of characters are also conducted to enhance the pupils’ understanding and creativity level.

 

  • Show & Tell Activities

Show & Tell presentations would be conducted on termly basis to encourage pupils to use spoken ML.

 

  • Buddy Reading Programme

Pupils who are weak in their reading are chosen to attend the Buddy Reading class which is conducted on every Tuesdays & Thursdays. Weak readers are paired with good pupils on every lesson with the supervision from the teacher-in-charge.

 

  • Basic Reading Programme

To cater to the needs of our slow learners, basic reading class is conducted weekly. Pupils are taught the basics in learning Malay language with a list of hands-on activities.
